The Crimean crisis and its impacts on the Russian Ukrainian relations

Abstract

The Crimean crisis broke out between Russia and Ukraine after the annexation of the Crimea island by Russia which was granted to Ukraine at the era of the former soviet union .The island due to its location overlooking the two straits of Bosphorus and Dardanelles represents a strat egic significance to Russia, and the possession of it means the control of the black sea waters, and it has the biggest naval base for Russia which is the only one in the warm waters which ensures safe exit for the Russian black sea fleet to the Mediterranean sea, the crisis has erupted when the Ukrainian president (Viktor Janoekovytsj) Withdrew the request of Ukraine to join European communityearly in 2014 and his attempt to rapprochement with Russia and entering the Eurasian union, demonstrations broke out to the streets denouncing that decision and was associated with acts of violence and clashes between the demonstrators and security forces
